Death of Dimanyi Matthias Agu Ezea
The death of Dimanyi Mathias Agu Ezea, the Onyishi of Ozi-Edem has been
announced. He was 103 years old. He died on the 24th of December 2009.
As is customary in Edem, the death of an Onyishi is announced a month
after his demise. The funeral arrangements are as follows:
January 28th 2010 - 15.00pm: Wake keeping
January 29th 2010 - 11.00am: Burial
January 30th 2010 - 10.00am: Funeral Ceremony
January 31st 2010 - 10.00am: Outing Ceremony
Dimanyi Mathias Ezea was the first son of late His Royal Highness, Igwe
Ezea Ugwuoke, Chief of Edem. Indigenes of Edem from different parts of
the world are expected home for the funeral ceremonies and paying of
homage to his first son Ozo Marcel Agu Ezea. Dimanyi Mathias Ezea is
survived by two wives and twelve children.

The Queen (Nwunye-Eze) of Edem, Her Majesty, Queen Stella Ezea has
announced that the Edem Children’s Day is to be celebrated on the 15th
of August every year.
All kind of different activities are going to take
place in order to celebrate and honor the children of the Kingdom. |

Installation of the Igwe of Ozi-Edem
The installation ceremony of H.R.H. Igwe Hyacinth Ugwu Ezema as the Igwe
of Ozi-Edem will take place on the 21st of November 2009. The
installation ceremony will be performed by the Onyishi of Ozi-Edem and
will be attended by traditional rulers, senior government officials,
dignitaries from all over the world and all citizens of Edem at home and abroad.
The ceremony is a public one so everyone is
invited.

Development Conference
The 1st Edem International Development Conference is going to take place
in April 2010. It is has the topic “Rural Development,
Globalization and Capitalism in Africa”. International participants with
different backgrounds are to be expected.
His Majesty, King Christopher Ezea II will be delivering a speech at the conference. Exact dates to be
announced shortly.

The coronation of His Majesty, King Christopher Nwabueze Ezea II, Eze
Edem XIX is going to take place in the summer of 2010. Multiple
festivities are going to surround the coronation.

PinBoys confirmed for the showprogram of the EHM

The Danish band PinBoys is the first band to be confirmed for the
showprogram of the 1st Annual Edem Half Marathon. The pop-punk band was
formed back in 2002 and has released their 2nd Album “Simple Art”
earlier this year.
The band has done several tours in Europe, the U.S. and Japan. They have
played shows together with bands like Billy Talent, Fall Out Boy or
Millencolin. The band has also headlined festivals like the Northern
Unity Festival (Germany) before.
Now they are ready to take over Nigeria!

29/08/09 - 1st Annual Edem Half Marathon
EIDA is going to organize the 1st Annual Edem Half Marathon on December
12. Everybody is welcome to participate. The track (21,097.5 meters) is
going to lead the participants through the different parts of the
Kingdom of Edem.
The registration is open until December 5. It is possible to either
register online or in specific designated areas, which are going to be
published shortly.
Prize money:
1st - $10,000
2nd - $5,000
3rd - $2,500
Best Woman - $2,500
After the race, a big music-show program is going to take place. It will
consist of both international acts as well as local musicians.
Entrance is free!!

Edem Cultural Week
From December 18 till December 23 the Edem Cultural Week is going to
take place in Edem. Over the course of 6 days, festivities are going to
take place in order to celebrate the Kingdom of Edem and its great
culture and traditions.
Schedule
December 18: 12 am - A thousand gun salute and fireworks.
10 am - Gov. Sullivan Chime is expected to perform the opening ceremony.
December 19: Akpa-Edem Day, cultural entertaining groups from Akpa Edem
will display.
December 20: Ozi-Edem Day, cultural entertaining groups from Ozi Edem
will display.
December 21: Edem-Ani Day, cultural entertaining groups from Edem Ani
will display.
December 22: Eze Edem Day, everybody comes out to display in honour of
the King.
December 23: Prize awards and closing ceremony. A hundred gun salute by
11.59 pm.
07/07/09 - Ezea
Royal Family Football Tournament 2009
For the very first time the Ezea Royal Family Football Tournament took
place from the 3rd - 5th of July at the football field of Community
Primary School in Obeke, Akpa-Edem.
Watched by members of the Edem royal family,
three teams from the three different zones of the Kingdom of Edem
competed for honor of winning the prestigious cup. After a tough fight,
the team of Edem-Ani won the tournament taking home the cup and cash
prize of N50,000. The home team of Akpa-Edem took second, winning
N30,000; whereas the Ozi-Edem team got N20,000 for coming third.
About two thousand people followed the games
closely which is yet another indicator for the dedication that sport has
in Edem. The Mayor of Nsukka West Local Government presented the medals
and the cup at the price giving ceremony on July 5th. Being the
tournament winners, next year's competition will take place in Edem-Ani.
The EIDA will be organising the event.
